How the world runs on Ḥesed
How the world runs on Ḥesed
One of the three things that upholds the world is the collection of Acts of Giving Kindness. In Hebrew, this is called Gemilut Ḥasadim (גְמִילוּת חֲסָדִים). A single act of it is called “Ḥesed” (חֶסֶד). Every single action, that we do, creates chain-reaction of events that creates or destroys aspects of our world. These actions affect the actions of others. One small act of חֶסֶד can have a life-lasting affect on the world, but the same is true for the opposite. An act of neglect could lead to the decay of our reality.
It is a חֶסֶד that Hashem allows us to exist. Hashem allows us to do חֶסֶד on his behalf. We have the potential to be shluḥim (messengers) of חֶסֶד for Hashem. We have the capability to continue his goodness by moving it through the world.
