Tzniut (צניעות)

If the Physical Universe is equivalent to “tinted windows ” or barriers that separate us from Hashem’s infinite power, via the act of creation itself, then the nature of modesty is the physical representation of these barriers. However, there is a deeper meaning behind this.

The art of covering one’s self is showing the importance of the spiritual. It acknowledges the modesty of creation and its relationship with Hashem. The word “Tzniut” (צניעות) is often translated as “modesty”, but that is only a fraction of the original meaning of the word. The purpose of being Tzinus is to bring pure, unadulterated spirituality into the physical world. A woman, due to her spiritual oneness and connection to Hashem, can express authentic ruchniut or spirituality by merely being Tzniut.
