Neshamot: Insights to Meditation

The Hebrew word for breathing is Neshimah – נְשִׁימָה. The Hebrew word for the soul is Neshamah – נְשָׁמָה. The נְשָׁמָה is the spark is from Hashem himself unlike the Nefesh (נֶפֶשׁ) which is in the blood of all living beings. Wind, the movement of air, is called Ruakh (רוּחַ). The נְשִׁימָה of air moves רוּחַ into the נֶפֶשׁ. Air is what connects all of these things together. Since breathing is essential to spiritual development, one can conclude that air is the primary element in the spiritual realm.
